It’s great to have a winemaker hosted tasting in the middle of vintage and tonight Damain North has been generous with his time to do just that!

Damian’s story is pretty well known now – originally part of the winemaking team at Tarrawarra, then at Leeuwin Estate in Margaret River, then a stint in Oregon making pinot noir, before returning to the Yarra Valley about four years ago to concentrate on his own label, Journey Wines.

Sourcing quality fruit from mature vineyards is the mantra, and as such, he brings a Yarra Chardonnay, Yarra Pinot Noir and a Heathcote Shiraz to the tasting bench tonight. All 2013 wines and all lipsmackingly delicious……..that’s the other mantra!

All on tasting in store from 5pm tonight – do yourself a favour!

Delas Cotes du Rhone 2012 – buy up and save!

I’d almost forgotten what good value this wine can be! A Cotes du Rhone from one of the biggest producers in the Southern Rhone Valley, this 2012 vintage wine is an absolute no brainer.

Shiraz dominant (different form most CdRs) with just 25% grenache, it fairly leaps out of the glass – raspberries, plums and a whole load of baking spices – nutmeg, cinnamon, white pepper etc.

The palate is elegantly structured with the purity and depth of fruit a real standout. Fresh acidity keeps it light on its feet. Everything that a southern Rhone red should be – satisfying, enough complexity without having to write a book about it, and great value!

RRP $22.00. In Store Special $105 a Six Pack (thats only $17.50 each!)

And a big thanks to all who fired back some ideas for the year ahead – the planning has begun!

Enjoy a great weekend
