Squitchy Lane Fume Blanc 2017

As you all well and truly should know by now 2017 made some fantastic and elegant wines but what you may not know is, that really suits this style of wine!
This is a nearly forgotten and often misunderstood style that is often pulled out of barrel and consumed way to early, because well that’s what you do with this variety isn’t it? If you don’t know that this stuff is made from Sauvignon Blanc, forget that I even mentioned it because it is pretty much an irrelevant and lewd point. Aromatic and textural to the core, this a light to medium bodied and silky number that has exuberant lemon curd, peach blossom, nougat and classy lime zest notes but now it’s becoming slightly more complex and better with food because it lasts longer on your palate.  All that and now with an extra (what I call) smoky/oily/nutty character creeping in but still there’s a refreshing natural acidity tying it all together. Seriously, a French version that is this intense, pure and driven will cost you twice as much and many local versions are just ‘Savvy with a Twist’. “We don’t stock French Fume anymore because we have something just as good if not better right on our doorstep.” BC
A good Fume needs a little time in the bottle to get to that extra special drink me now stage. Guess what folks, it’s just around the bend, buy now and drink over the next two years or even longer if you want more smoky/oily/nutty and even extra length.
