Montesei Soave Classico 2018
$32.00 – $87.00
Loads of finesse this one. Aromatic lifted floral and spicy notes back by green apple and nashi pear. Can age for a few years but right now it’s an excellent and extremely capable alternative to Riesling this BBQ season
$32 or 3 for $87
Soave is arguably the most famous white-wine DOC in Italy.
Granted in 1968, the DOC title covers wines made from Garganega grapes grown on the hillsides east of Verona, in the Veneto wine region of north-eastern Italy.
A dry, crisp, fruity white wine, Soave’s naturally refreshing appeal led it to phenomenal popularity in the second half of the 20th century.
Here, it produces anything from 70-100% of the blend, the remainder tending to be Trebbiano and/or Chardonnay.
Good wines are made particularly in the Soave Classico region, and many of these are lightly oaked and show viscous texture, almond flavors and vibrant fruit qualities, making great partners to risottos, seafood and white meat. Garganega also produces the sweet Recioto Soave wines.
