Tellurian Pastiche Shiraz 2016 Heathcote
$32.00 – $90.00
Silky textured Shiraz from a vineyard near Toolleen that happens to sit within the Heathcote boundary. I say it this way because it has different soils and micro-climate to the vineyards around the town and to the vineyards further North near to Colbinabbin. This is pretty much a cooler part with soils similar in make up to those in the Upper Yarra. So this is pretty a cool climate syrah style with plentiful silky tannins good depth but no over ripe characters. This wine bursts with flavour and really has the intensity of a much more expensive wine. Flavours are akin to raspberry, mulberry and early season tart plums. There is that tell-tale Heathcote menthol twang but that actually comes from the surrounding bush so not necessarily unique to Heathcote either. Value plus. Will make even the worst roast lamb look like a gourmet treasure.
