Mayer Cabernet 2019

If you have been reading my notes over the last couple of years you would have realised what a fan I am of Timo’s cabernets. Nice marriage of old world and new world style. Every year I say that you should and will see more of this style as well. It’s happening so now there’s a shortage of cabernet in Yarra Valley. Timo’s cabernet actually reminds me of some of the better cabernets from Napa Valley more than Bordeaux, not that I like those comparisons and Timo will tell you himself that he “just makes MAYER!” A medium bodied dry red with forward fruit driven palate showing cassis, and violets with Timo (which is what I call funk now) creeping in at the end along with a whack of crushed thyme. Plentiful fine quality tannins doing their bit without that annoying over puckering sensation that you get with many over-ripe, over-made, over-hyped 1990’s style new world stuff. Limited supply so while stocks last
