Pinemount Syrah 2016
forward vintage made in a super smooth style with well rounded tannins and both light and dark fruit notes. Very modern and very enjoyable. Usually $35

Payne’s Rise 2014
2014 was a extra concentrated vintage due to frost at budburst and a hot finish to January. Great for shiraz as I made wines that were all about power. So powerful wines from cool climate are always winners. Usually $30

Alkimi Syrah 2014
Stu Dudine was the winemaker at Helen and Joeys but now he’s out on his own producing some next level wines. This one is no exception, so we asked Stu to keep some of the 14s back for us. He was gracious enough to do this and now that the tannins are starting to let go of some of those hidden flavours, these are outstanding. Big steak and a bigger style cool climate shiraz sounds good to me. Usually $32

Solitude Shiraz 2015
Tibooburra vineyard in Gembrook. Coolish Upper Yarra fruit with pepper spice, mulberry and plum nose supported by red and blue fruit on the slightly tight palate. Looks amazing after decanting and a 15 minute rest. This allows a lot more spice and red fruit to come out resulting in a very well balanced and complex wine. An absolute steal at $30

Fikkers Two Bricks Shiraz 2016
Tony Fikkers used to work for Barrique, then he left to pursue his winemaking career at Medhurst. He left there just over twelve months ago to join Steve at Giant Steps as assistant winemaker. This is pretty much the last of this wine and rumour has it that there’s no more to be had in the foreseeable future. True cool climate style with restrained palate that releases black pepper, plum and mulberry notes once you give it a bit of air. Only $29

Serrat Shiraz Viognier 2016
Looking really good no. this is from a close planted vineyard the always gives good concentrated flavours and fine tannins. Plenty of darker fruit notes and fine tannin from the old school viticulture and the layers ginger and spice from the viognier are what makes this truly incredible wine. It continues to evolve after decanting and can balance out richer style foods but is equally at home next to a big juicy porterhouse steak.
Cellar until 2020 and drink by 2030. $50
