Payten and Jones Leuconoe Sangiovese 2014

It’s startling for its bold strike of fragrance – ripe red and black berries, warm clove spice, pepper, maraschino cherry. It feels sweet when you first taste the wine but subsequent sips reveals a dustiness and building presence of puckering tannin. It’s kind of loose and juicy, but then you get this firming up and intriguing sour-sweetness in the finish. It’s not sophisticated, per se, but it has character and it is really good drinking.
